Jane Hansford is a contemporary British painter known for her bewitching female figures and enchanted landscapes.
Jane’s work is an exploration of the feminine, mapping a rich and varied terrain – from the bold fantasy selves women have long tapped into through fashion and myth, to the subtle details of a quietly grounded life. Woven throughout are clues to Jane’s personal passions: nature and animals; clothing and costume; art history and visual culture.
Underpinning Jane’s work is a pure enjoyment of drawing, a love of paint, and a childlike ability to run free with her imagination.
Originally trained in ceremonial embroidery, Jane gained a thorough grounding in traditional drawing and painting before going on to gain a first class BA in fine art.
Next exhibition: Work available as part of Natasha O’Kane Sussex Contemporary Art’s group show Art For Christmas 2025 at The Studio, Lewes (29th November to 14th December, weekends and by appointment).
